Young Life is a really cool ministry that I’m a part of here at Grove. Young Life is a Christian nonprofit that aims on “going where kids are and building personal relationships with them” and “providing fun, adventurous, life changing experiences” while “working in community alongside like-minded adults (volunteer leaders, committee members, donors and staff).” At Grove City College, Young Life leaders have the opportunity to spread the gospel to kids and grow friendships with them through their faith journey.
Young Life is having a “kingdom impact” by working with local churches and going where kids are. According to their website, “working with the local church is important to Young Life”. For Young Life club, we go to a church in Sharon called Covenant Presbyterian Church. Without this local church, we wouldn’t be able to have a place to meet up with our kids for club on Saturdays. Club is a very important aspect of Young Life because it shows the importance of having a safe place where kids can be kids and get a chance to learn more about Jesus. During our “club talks” we can dive deeper into who Jesus is and talk more about what the gospel really is.
Young Life also does discipleship and prioritizes reaching all kids. “Time, patience, trust and consistency” are all important parts of reaching kids where they are and how to develop friendships with them. This goes hand in hand with contact work because we go out and make friendships with kids.
Their values include the gospel, including all kids, diversity, health, scripture, stewardship, ecumenical, and the next kid. These are all important values because everyone deserves the chance to get to know about Jesus and to have fun.
Summer camp is also a very important aspect of Young Life because there’s a whole intentional week to get to know the kids better, have fun with them, and they get the opportunity to hear the gospel every day during camp club talks.
