The Chosen is a well-done TV series that seeks to deliver the good news of the Gospel through portraying the life of Jesus and His disciples through many powerful episodes. Along with the amazing mission and vision for this show, filmmaker Dallas Jenkins, also sought to make the TV series easily accessible for all people. The Chosen can be streamed on the free app called “Angel Studios,” which allows anyone of to watch at any time. The TV series gets its financial support through donors who have been impacted by the show.
My family loves The Chosen, and I personally have been so blessed by the TV series because it makes the Gospel seem so much more personal as you visibly see Jesus interacting with His disciples and those He ministered to throughout the Gospel. The Chosen is a great example of redemptive entrepreneurship as it seeks to combine something so practical such as a TV series, with sharing the Gospel with millions of people across the world. Along with the show being extremely well done and meaningful, I think it also creates a great conversation startup for believers to share the Gospel. Think of how often people talk about their most recent favorite shows and movies. The Chosen is a great show for believers to recommend to those outside the faith because while it is an entertaining TV series, it is also very Biblically sound in how it communicates the truth of the Gospel. The Chosen beautifully portrays the compassionate character of Jesus that is so compelling. The Chosen has and will continue to have a redemptive impact on our society, as it seeks to convey the truth of the Gospel, while also capturing people’s attention through entertainment.
My family loves watching the Chosen! Unfortunately, I have not found the time to watch it myself, but it is high on my list. I have heard so many wonderful things about the show and the impact it has had on so many of my friends. It is wonderful how someone was able to produce something like this and remain so close to Biblical text.
My family also loves the Chosen! When I am home from school we all spend time watching it together. It is so wonderful that they are aiming to reach everyone with the gospel and that they get all of their funds from donors. This show does a great job of helping people understand Jesus, His ministry, and His character without over or under contextualizing.
Film and television are powerful methods for spreading the word, especially in a culture where people more often prefer video for entertainment instead of reading. However with things like the Chosen, it’s important to remember that it is a tool for spreading awareness of the Gospel, and that what is ultimately important is for people to go to the word and read it for themselves. That being said, if shows like The Chosen accomplish this, then I give my full support!
