Street Soccer USA

As I was researching redemptive businesses, I decided to look into something that really interests me, which is soccer. I then found Street Soccer USA and was really curious about just how much a soccer organization can have a redemptive impact on the community. I wanted to see if they could really redefine what a soccer organization does.

At its core, Street Soccer USA uses soccer as a tool to address homelessness, poverty, and social exclusion. Soccer truly is only a tool to a much greater cause for this organization. It is intentional the way they use soccer to build dignity, community, and opportunities for those who feel they are forgotten.

Founded in 2004, Street Soccer USA focuses on one idea: sport can be the doorway, but people are the priority. Through this organization, people are invited into way more than a game, yet not being invited into something new or scary, but rather to something that seems fun or easy to agree to. As Street Soccer USA has people come, they are encountered with a consistent, supportive environment where they are seen, known, and valued.

The biggest reason this organization is a redemptive business is that many participants come from extremely difficult situations or circumstances. That could be homelessness, financial instability, or lack of support systems. Street Soccer focuses on long-term transformation rather than just short-term relief. They treat every practice and game as an opportunity for mentorship, accountability, and growth.

Street Soccer USA reinforces purpose and belonging to those who often lack that feeling. Through looking at this redemptive idea, I have learned that being redemptive doesn’t mean you have to do everything, but rather it’s about doing one thing with deep intention. When businesses see people, invest in them, and create pathways to grow, it can create a force for redemption in the World.

I really like how you brought up sports being a redemptive doorway to connect with people. Sharing the Gospel with people and brining it to them in a sense that they are familiar with can go a long way in them being receptive.

This is a great idea. Building community is one of the most important parts of spreading the Gospel. I really admire their goal of achieving lasting results and supporting people’s unique needs.
