Blog Post #3 What businesses and non-profit organizations are having “kingdom impact,” and how are they doing it?

In n Out

When I sat down to brainstorm businesses with a kingdom impact, I could immediately think of a handful, but one stood out. We talked about this business in class for a brief moment, and I would like to take this opportunity to expand on it. In N Out displays a kingdom impact, and they have a great way of going about it.

To begin with, In and Out is a popular fast food chain in the West United States. They were founded in October of 1948 in Baldwin Park, California. They sell burgers, fries, and shakes. In the 1980s, they started writing Bible verses on their different products. For example, on the bottom of their drink cups, they have John 3:16, a core verse about salvation. They placed Proverbs 3:5, a verse encouraging trust in God, on the milkshake cups. On their burger wraps, they placed Nahum 1:7 as a reminder of God’s goodness.

In N Out is known for putting good ethical standards into practice. They are family-owned and faith-driven at their core. Owner Lynsi Snyder has spoken publicly about her faith and how it guides her leadership. She is open to how God helped her overcome personal struggles, including the loss of her father, past failed marriages, and the pressures of running a major company. In N Out is also known for its charitable giving. The In-N-Out Burger Foundation supports programs that help abused and at-risk children, reinforcing their commitment to Christian compassion. Lastly, in general, in and out is known for treating employees well. They try to foster a positive work environment. They pay well over the minimum wage and try to promote a Christian environment.

This is a fast food establishment that I have always wished was on the East Coast. They have a good product and a better business model that puts a kingdom impact into practice.
