Pastoring the Entrepreneurs

As someone who will hopefully be entering the ministry world in the near future, I have thought a lot about the types of people that I might have the opportunity to pastor. Working in a church, there are people from all different backgrounds, denominations, and especially careers that might enter the life of the church. As the person who will be leading the flock, it is important to be able to relate to the people in the flock, not just on a faith level, but on a personal and life level as well. Since there are so many entrepreneurs out there, it is a possibility that I might get to pastor them, therefore making it important to know how to relate to, encourage, and pursue these types of people.

When it comes to leading the entrepreneurs in the church world, one reason it is important for me to know about the concept of redemptive entrepreneurship is so that I can push those people to think redemptively as they pursue new ventures. Specifically, I can help that person see how their venture, their new mission and vision, can and does fit into the mission of God in the world. In other words, if I was not familiar with redemptive entrepreneurship I would not be able to aid the entrepreneurs in the church when they are in need of pastoral guidance.

From my perspective as a pastor, there are countless nonprofit organizations that are also in need of guidance. Any understanding of redemptive entrepreneurship is crucially helpful here because it will allow me to see the vision and purpose behind these organizations and allow the church to partner with them to carry out God’s mission. The entrepreneurs in the church are in need of pastoring, not just about financial or business advice, but about how their venture fits into what God is doing in the world.
