Growing Up with Soul Care Place
Like many daughters, I grew up with much admiration for my mother. Watching her pursue her calling by creating her counseling practice Soul Care Place engraved in me the importance of redemptive entrepreneurship. I watched over the years the effort she put into creating a place for people to heal, find peace, and discover their purpose no matter who they were or if they could even pay her. What started as a small non-profit organization from the basement of our home- turned into a place of restoration, community, and an example of what redemptive entrepreneurship can look like.
As a kid, I saw the late night, many hours, and consistent prayers that fueled her. As I watched her face challenges and held on to her mission what stood out to me most was the way the Lord came alongside her. Throughout each step that led to her placing an office on Main Street, hiring other therapists to come alongside her, or accepting those without insurance to her practice, the Lord has so evidently been a part of each decision. Through each aspect she never lost sight of why she started- it has been so evident her belief in the power of healing and allowing God to be the center of a business to serve a higher purpose.
At its core, Soul Care Place is built on the belief that businesses should be redemptive. A lesson that will always stick with me is that offering service to others is never about the money you may receive in return. To me, my mom embodies what it means to lead with faith and compassion, showing me that success is not measured by numbers but through the people you help.
Growing along Soul Care Place has helped me to understand how important service in leadership is. Through taking this class, I have gained a greater understanding of the effort and trust in the lord needed for redemptive entrepreneurship to work. From this I have an even greater appreciation for the effort my mom has made in Soul Care Place.
