For this blog post I am going to chat about one of the companies that is extremely interesting to me. This is Chic Fil A. My interest in this company came almost 2 years ago when Cathy Truitt came to Grove City to announce the opening of a location in Chic fil a on Grove City Campus. I really appreciated the way that she carried herself, both as a businesswoman and also a Christian. This made me dive deeper into the Chic franchise and see some ways they have applied Christian ethics into their business model.
The first thing that is obvious, but they observe the sabbath. I think it is very easy for companies to apply Chrisian ethics until it actually effects their business. Over the years, they have lost 10s of millions of dollars for being closed on Sundays and they have stuck with it. This is very cool to see them standing their ground on this. I’m sure a lot of people have advised them to stop doing them and go for the money, but they stick true to their roots.
Another thing that Chic Fil A has stood on is their servant leadership frame. “45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” This verse is Mark 10:45. This is something that the company promotes. They teach and reward humility, service and care for others. A tangible way they do this is by the way they treat their customers. They treat them with the utmost respect and see them as higher than themselves.
The final thing that I really noticed with Chic Fil A was the way they interact with the community and do charitable events. The Chic Fil A foundation really promotes education and youth development in the community and across the country. This is another way they put their Christian ethics into their business model.
These are a couple of great examples of how Chic puts their Christian Ethics into the business world.
