Camp Allegheny: Reaching the Unreached with the Gospel

As I have been looking for ways to leave a redemptive impact after graduation, one key opportunity stood out which was to work as a senior counselor at Camp Allegheny. While I went through applying to work as a counselor at this camp (and now after being hired), I have come to realize how they are employing redemptive principles to something as simple as summer camp. As Camp Allegheny is partnered with The Salvation Army, they are doing all that is possible to ensure that unreached children in local communities are able to attend camp for little to no cost to their families.

Apart from simply providing discounts to families unable to afford sending their kids to camp otherwise, Camp Allegheny also uses redemptive principles in how they plan camp activities. While each week has a different theme with numerous different activities, they center the numerous activities around the Gospel and seek to reach kids through fun activities they enjoy.

While there are many Christian camps out there, much fewer not only enable most kids to attend at discounted rates, while also openly preaching the Gospel through various fun activities. Camp Allegheny is seeking to meet a need for many families in the Pittsburgh area with the light of the Gospel and I am beyond thankful to be able to take part in that.

  • It's great to hear that you found an opportunity to make a redemptive impact through working as a senior counselor at Camp Allegheny. It's even more impressive to see how the camp is partnering with The Salvation Army to ensure that unreached children are able to attend camp for little to no cost to their families. It's heartwarming to see how they are using redemptive principles to plan camp activities and reach kids through fun activities they enjoy while centering everything around the Gospel.

  • This organization seems so neat, and I love that you want to be a part of the ministry they are doing there. Camp Allegheny seems to have an awesome mission as they seek to serve the lost while sharing the good news of the gospel. I love how they take into consideration the financial states of the kids' families. I think the fact that the camp considers dropping rates for under resourced families is such a good example of the generous character of Christ. Camp Allegheny is such a good example of an organization who seeks to have redemptive impact on this broken world.

  • I have never heard of this camp before but now I am really interested to know more about it and I think that is so cool that they find ways for kids to be able to come that cannot afford it.
