Michael Fitzgerald – ABLE Force

ABLE Force is a non-profit organization started by Michael Fitzgerald in 2019. This company is dedicated to connecting young adults with disabilities to employment opportunities. For Michael, this mission was personal. His son, Shawn, dealt with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Shawn was eager to work, but found that once he graduated from college, the number of available opportunities dropped significantly. Michael’s solution to this problem was to create jobs for people like Shawn instead of waiting for someone else to do it. In 2019, Michael partnered with Brian Damiani, a young father facing similar issues with his own children. Together, they started Classic Rock Auto Detail in Richboro, PA. Since then, the pair has launched three other businesses under the ABLE umbrella, providing jobs for young adults with disabilities. Currently, ABLE employs 20 young adults, but they intend to expand their programs and increase their influence.  ABLE may be small, but the organization is working hard to look out for people who are not represented in society. Their mission is extremely redemptive and connects young people with work experience and a community of people who care. Michael and Brian work together to advocate for young adults with disabilities and to close the employment gap that many people face.

This is a great example highlighting that just because an organization is relatively small does not mean it cannot bring about great impact. I appreciate how the founders saw a problem affecting someone they loved and decided to selflessly do something to create change.

Michael Fitzgerald’s story is deeply moving turning a personal challenge with his son Shawn into an entire organization that creates real employment opportunities for young adults with disabilities is truly inspiring. ABLE Force is a powerful reminder that the best redemptive ventures often come from the places closest to our hearts.
