David Batstone – Not for Sale

David Batstone is an American social entrepreneur born on April 4, 1958. David was born and raised in Illinois and earned his bachelor’s in psychology from Westmont College. Later in life, David earned two Master of Divinity degrees from International Baptist Seminary and Pacific School of Religion and a doctorate in systematic theology from the Graduate Theological Union. Currently, he works  in the Department of Entrepreneurship & Innovation at the University of San Francisco. In 2006, David discovered that his favourite local restaurant was the center of a crime organization trafficking young girls. This discovery stirred him to action. A year later, he wrote his famous book Not for Sale, sparking the beginning of his organization. Not For Sale is a global organization that uses social enterprise to end human trafficking and environmental exploitation. They tackle the issue of human trafficking with projects supporting local businesses, building community homes, and founding new businesses to employ locals.  With the support of their network, the Not For Sale team planted over 500,000 trees and gave housing and medical care to over 6,300 people in 2025 alone. Apart from his work with NFS, David is also the co-founder of Just Business, an investment group focused on redemptive, mission-focused organizations. Through Just Business, he was able to found REBBL, a high-protein sports drink company, and Dignita, a restaurant group focused on social impact. Most recently, David has been working to launch an organization called Regenerate Technology Global, a project dedicated to recycling batteries and building sustainable economies. David Batstone is a dedicated example of redemptive entrepreneurship. He is involved in a wide range of projects, but incorporates a sustainability or mission element to every new thing he creates.

I love how he stepped up when he found out the truth about that restaurant. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who would not have the courage to take action like he did. It is very inspiring.

It is so cool to see how entrepreneurs can help create and make a difference through ideas and businesses. He was able to see how evil that restaurant was and decided to not only help fix that but also to help prevent that in multiple communities. It’s always so encouraging to see just how much businesses can make an impact against wickedness and sin in this world.

In addition to the other comments already on this post, I want to add that David is quite inspiring simply based on the width of impact he’s had. To be sure, the quality of his work ought not be ignored (attempting to end human trafficking), but the quantity of his work might also be noted and uplifted. The amount of businesses with redemptive and social impact begun by one man is extraordinary! Thank you for researching and writing about Dr. Batstone. What an impactful life!
