Freedom bikers club church

When I started to think about the word contextualism, I thought about this church called Freedom Biker Church that was actually talked about in class. Freedom Biker Church was started by a husband and wife, Mike and Charlene Beasley, who had worked in traditional church ministry for roughly 15 years but had a passion for motorcycles and felt the Lord was calling them to reach bikers who did not feel welcome in traditional churches. That is when they launched the biker church in 2006 with one goal in mind, and that was to reach bikers and glorify God.

The way they do this is through things like fellowship, Bible study, worship rallies, and outreach events. The reason why I chose this church, which really displays contextualism, is because of this: so often, I think that following the Lord is put into a box. While I believe that the Lord gave us explicit instructions in the Bible on how to honor Him, how to pray, how to worship, and things like that, I also think there are different ways we can bring the Word of God to people in a way they can relate to it.

In the end, we are all Team Jesus with one common goal, and that is to glorify the Lord. When every single life down here on earth is over, we will be judged by the God of the universe, and the only thing we can take to heaven is people. I think it is so cool that here we are looking at a couple who saw a need and met that need, which is the greatest need any of us have, and that is the need for Jesus.

I thought that the Freedom Biker Church that we talked about in class was pretty interesting. It can be hard to fit into a “normal church” and especially if you’re a biker, but I liked how this church ministry accepted everyone who felt different but wanted to pursue the Lord. Following Jesus can seem like it fits into a very specific box, but there are so many ministries out there that it makes me realize it’s not just one box.
