Luke Mantzell Talk

During class on April 3, Luke Mantzell came into class to talk about what being an area director for YoungLife looks like. Luke, who happens to be one of my close friends, is very interesting to listen to. I’ve talked to him a few times now, but never really got to dive deep into what he actually does for his job. Being an area director is not an easy job whatsoever. The job forces you to go all over the area and reach new kids so you can help share the gospel. This is not easy for someone who just graduated college or for someone who is about to get married this summer. Luke shared some valuable lessons and all-around knowledge when it comes to doing ministry and also balancing your life. What stuck out to me the most is how he said that he divides his life into three separate areas. 2/3 of his days is spent doing Younglife whether that is contact work, campaigners, club, most of the day is made for ministry. The other one third is spent in personal time. I find it very interesting that he can carry over his neural skills from college into this new job that he has. Being an area director means that you have to fundraise most of your salary. He has to go out into the community, build a committee and get funds not only for himself, but for the area and the kids as a whole. It is awesome to see Luke Mantzell take over in this position, especially since he was my high school Younglife leader. It is cool to see how he developed in college and overtime and now he is the area director in Pittsburgh. Luke is a great man and a great entrepreneur, I’m excited to see him grow in this position.
