91 Place Indianapolis

91 Place is an Indianapolis based organization dedicated to disrupting generational poverty and homelessness among young adults ages 18–24. At its core, 91 Place provides transitional housing, mental health support, and workforce development to unhoused youth, helping them rebuild their lives through long‑term, redemptive relationships. The organization describes itself not just as a shelter, but a transformative community that restores dignity, fosters growth, and creates pathways to stability and independence. The transitional housing program is built around a family‑style model where house mentors live alongside residents, offering support, life‑skills training, and individualized guidance. The organization currently operates three homes in Indianapolis, providing safe, stable environments for young adults approaching adulthood and experiencing housing instability. Residents typically stay long enough to pursue education, secure employment, and build healthy relationships key steps toward becoming independent adults. Mental health services are a major pillar of 91 Place’s mission. Through the Near Eastside Counseling center, both residents and community members receive trauma‑informed, evidence‑based therapy, including Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. The organization emphasizes a holistic understanding of trauma and its impact on youth development, offering integrated body‑and‑mind therapeutic approaches. These services expanded in 2022 to help alumni and community members at little or no cost, with 81 community clients served in 2024 alone. Workforce development is supported through structured training and hands‑on employment opportunities, including work at Neidhammer Coffee Co., a social enterprise owned and operated by 91 Place. Youth participate in ongoing skills training, gain job experience, and develop employability competencies in a supportive environment. In 2024, the coffee shop invested 3,800 hours into youth employment, with participants earning income and developing practical skills.  The organization relies heavily on community involvement, including volunteers, partners, donors, and sponsorships. Recent support includes a major Impact 100 “Change Maker” grant to help purchase a flagship home that has served more than 20 youth. This support helps ensure 91 Place can continue creating long‑lasting change for vulnerable young adults in Indianapolis.
