It’s amazing to think that it has already been 14 years since the first iPhone came out. The iPhone revolutionized phones as we know it, and many companies have followed suit to compete with them. What has been a huge aspect of smartphones is apps. We truly have an app for everything. I currently have an app that tells me if it is dark outside. It is a total joke between my friends and I, which by the way, at the time I am writing this it is not dark outside. In 2008, when smartphones became mainstream, Bobby Gruenewald and Life Church created the Youversion Bible app. Bobby saw his inspiration from the Gutenburg press and how that revolutionized accessibility of Bibles to so many people. He wondered how he can use technology to do the same thing. He did just that, in fact, it was the first Bible app to be featured on the App Store and one of 200 original apps. It reached 80,000 downloads the first weekend, now they boast in Christ a whopping 466,361,000 downloads over unique devices. That is such an incredible testament to God working in this world. Now, more than ever, the Bible is accessible to everyone and anyone. In the Great Commission, Jesus calls us to “go out and make disciples of all nations.” How wonderful of an opportunity Bobby took to do this, but it does not stop with him. It is our responsibility, not just his, as Christians to do so with such easy access to the Bible. Go out today and make disciples of all nations. God is with us in our hearts, and now His word is with us with one tap on our phones.
