Technology is constantly changing everything around us, even the way we worship. One of the new trends is having the weeks playlist set up on an Spotify playlist. Hillsong Church is obviously a very big church and is very into their music, but many other smaller churches are starting to place their songs on a playlist for their congregations. By doing this, they encourage their congregation to worship outside of the traditional time and focus on worship throughout the week. At the gym, picking up the kids, going to work, people can constantly be hearing uplifting and encouraging music. This is a pretty easy and cost effective message to connect with congregations because it is free and almost everyone has a music streaming platform in 2020. This is just one of the many ways technology is constantly changing our lives but also the way we worship and uplift others.
I love that while Hillsong is primarily a church, they branch out from that and do so much more. Its cool for a lot of reasons. They create jobs for people who are passionate about missions and serving but aren’t called to be pastors. It also targets a different and potentially under-reached market. Spotify is just another way they do that!
I think that Hillsong has done an incredible job at writing, and then sending out worship songs with scriptural truths to the world through mediums such as Spotify. That music streaming service and all others have made it possible for the name of Jesus to be praised pretty much anywhere by anyone. An idea to think on though may be that if all of the readily available, countless worship songs out in the world right now, is the church loosing the reverence that is to be brought to the action of worshiping God?
This is a fascinating idea! I think there will definitely be downsides to this but for the most part it’s definitely important to be continually worshiping God. This is truly innovative!
