Tyson foods is another example of a Christian business that has decided to do more than be passive in their faith. Across the 22 states that Tyson is in, there are approximately 100 chaplains working with the employees, to teach them God’s word, and how to live a Christian life, even in the workplace. They provide these services regardless of the beliefs of the employee, offering prayers, with the hope of turning some of the non- Christian employees to Christ. Not many companies, even Christian ones offer their own chaplains like that. Sometimes they may encourage people to go to church, but when the employees go home, they frequently just forget about it, and pretend it was never mentioned. However, when there are chaplains on site offering pastoral guidance to whomever wants it on a moment’s notice. This allows for more people, who wouldn’t think twice about ignoring the advice to go to church, to actually get the spiritual help they need.
In addition, the chaplains also provide physical aid to the employees. When someone needed a ride, or had nowhere to stay, they offer transportation and housing to them. During the Covid-19 outbreak, they were especially helpful, because they were able to take care of the sick people, by bringing food, and offering spiritual and emotional support during the time when Christian fellowship was so difficult to come by.
Finally, Tyson foods also founded the Tyson center for faith and spirituality in the workplace, which helps train business leaders to lead their businesses in a Christian, faith based manner, that serves Christ’s kingdom.
This should inspire others to follow in their footsteps, and not just passively encourage Christ’s kingdom, but actively place chaplains in their businesses, to promote the Gospel of Christ, and to provide the basic spiritual and physical needs of all their employees, in a way that will show God’s character through their acts of mercy.
