The Unchurched: An Interview with a Friend

Over spring break I sat down with a friend of mine who goes to a school where the gospel is not preached, he fits the definition of Unchurched, and I picked his mind for a while.  He also leans towards the left, so his viewpoints are much different than mine which I think helped the interview.  We first talked about his problems or why he does not go to church at all, and his response had a lot to do with the ideas that he did not agree with that were in the Bible, for example abortion was a topic we discussed for a long amount of time.  Next I asked him if he would rather that the gospel was watered down for people who think the same way as he does, he said that would not help at all, because would that even be the true word of God anymore.  By the end of the interview him and I met on some common ground and he said that he would come and try out a Sunday service with me to see if he liked it, and if he was just dismissing Christianity because of the few ideas that he disagrees with.

  • Thank you so much for sharing this! It's so cool how you had an intentional conversation with your friend about the Gospel. That is honestly so important in our walks of faith, but I feel like it can be easily forgotten at this school because most people have heard the Gospel. It is so good to talk through disagreements and hear the other side out, this does not mean that you have to compromise your beliefs - as you know. So exciting that there is an interest to come to church!

  • Wow, this is awesome! What a great way to be living Christianity in action. It was so intriguing to read through what your friend's responses to topics were and his thoughts about Christianity. Like Camille said above, so exciting about his willingness in the end to come to church!
