Pastor Randall Cunningham preaches Super Bowl win for Eagles | Las ...Vashti Cunningham Is Fierce

Randall Cunningham was a great quarterback from the 90s. In 1996, he was playing for the Philadelphia Eagles when he decided to take time away from football. During his 18 months off he said “I wanted a relationship with someone who would teach me accountability, and as I spent quality time with Troy, I learned, hands-on, that being a servant of God meant more than simply referring to myself as a Christian.” He spent time with a Pastor, Troy, that he had as a mentor. During his time off, Randall spent time traveling, evangelizing, and sharing his story. When he returned to football, he started a bible study for his team and even won NFL most valuable player that season. After his career ended, he dedicated himself to becoming a pastor. Randall said he knew at a young age that he was to become a pastor. He said “ It was a prophetic message that has now come to fruition. I love people, and desperately want to see them come to know Christ. My desire is to pour out all that God pours into me.” This is not something that you would expect out of a professional football player, especially of his stature. His church is located just outside the Las Vegas strip. His church has more than 1500 members that attend weekly and another 5000 that watch online every week. I guess he was really prepared for online ministry due to the covid-19 outbreak. He is entrepreneurial because he is seen as a role model for young athletes that may have a particular call to Christ like he had. His story teaches young athletes that they don’t have to choose. Randall walked away from football when he felt he was ready to fully dedicate his life to being a Pastor. He is the first professional athlete that I have heard he this involved in the church and he is a great role model.

“When you accept God as your God, you become a source of enlightenment and you become a light, and you allow the light to shine and then people begin to walk into that light.” -Randall Cunningham

  1. This is a super cool story that shows how God can use people for the good of his kingdom. It is always really cool to see professional athletes that make a stand for their faith but this is an entirely new level as Cunningham decided to start his own Church.

  2. Wow, i had no idea that a MVP was a pastor. Not only does this show that we don’t have to give up our morals on the field or in other areas of our lives. But that we can glorify God in all that we do!

  3. Its crazy I have not heard about this guy. Well I feel like Christians dont get a lot of attention.
good thing you are sharing his story!

  4. Hey Zach, this is so interesting. It’s amazing to see such a devout and curious man about the gospel. Taking away time from the NFL to learn more about God is very challenging and also very encouraging to see!!
