The Shelter

The Shelter

L’Abri is French for “the shelter”, and for over 60 years, L’Abri has created space for people of all different backgrounds and nationalities to receive honest answers to honest questions. Allowing people to engage in community, and pursue truth. L’Abri has served so many people regardless of faith orSwiss L'Abri – Shelter for honest questions personal history, and desire to show them the love of Jesus Christ. People go to L’Abri for many different questions, some searching simply just to find if “truth” exists at all. There are people who go for faith related and non-faith related questions, looking to find answers and peace within them. L’Abri is a space that is solely dedicated to exploring these ideas, rooted in the firm belief that questions and problems regarding God and faith can be discussed rationally, without having to resort to a lead in the dark.

Swiss L'Abri – L'Abri

L’Abri has locations around the world and has a great reach for people no matter where they are located. For students who look to attend it is roughly $30-$46 a day and students can stay as long as they want. This is extremely affordable and allows for students to have a reasonably inexpensive cost of living. The diversity of locations allows for students to choose their stay that suits what they are looking for, often providing secluded areas that prevent distractions and allow those to focus on their personal growth. The L’Abri also has a daily routine that consists of study, work, rest, conversation and prayer. They strive at simplicity and offer the ability to converse with those who are well versed on the area of questioning.

I know two people that both went to Switzerland and stayed at L’Abri for many weeks. They both had great experiences and found answers to what they were searching for. The ability for people to go to a secluded area away from distractions of day to day life and technology is a great start for being able to focus on a question and pursue the answer. L’Abri is partially funded by the consumer and partially funded by donations from the community. What L’Abri is doing is changing lives one question at a time.

  1. Very interesting! I have never heard of anything like this and was intrigued when reading your blog post. What a unique way to allow people to take a break from the real world and focus on God in His beautiful creation. I was so curious that I read about the starters and how it was created… super fascinating. Not to mention, what a great way to allow all types of people to come together and grow in one way or another. Although not everyone is coming to find a relationship with Christ, I believe a seed is being planted for those people. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I have never heard of this ministry before and it is really interesting! I think this is such a great idea to provide a place for people to get away and be in God’s creation. L’Abri gives people time to really contemplate and ask the hard questions they want answers to. I would love to go here sometime. Good job!

  3. This is a really cool thing! This has an incredibly cool redemptive focus and I cannot imagine the impact this has had on people. I am glad that your friends have had great experiences with it! This is such an interesting concept and it is extremely intriguing to look into more.
