The Overflow App

The Overflow App

The Overflow App is a music streaming app similar to popular ones such as Spotify and Apple Music, except it is set apart because it only allows users to listen to Christian music. The goal of this differentiating feature is to help users only consume music that is going to lift them up and encourage them. Standard music apps offer a wide range of music, but not all of it is beneficial, so the creators of this non-profit app wanted to create The Overflow to only provide Christian music and to also be affordable. A monthly subscription to The Overflow is about half of what typical music subscription apps charge, which also makes it appealing. This company has done a great job at innovatively reworking an existing product, and it is encouraging to learn about its purpose and mission. It is also about to introduce a new branch of the app as well called The Overflow podcast, which I believe will be positively received due to innovation based on the current generation which loves podcasts.

  1. I’m intrigued–it looks like they haven’t relaunched yet, but they are on Spotify. I will have to look into it when they launch their own app. Music reaches our souls in a unique way, and sometimes I find that listening to only Christian music helps my brainspace and heart. Having a separate app might be helpful for taking intentional breaks from secular music.

  2. Now I want to get this app! I have had such a hard time when using platforms like Spotify and Apple Music because there is just so much music nowadays that is so gross and upsetting. I have to flip through playlists constantly to find things that are wholesome and appropriate to listen to. I would absolutely love this! Having a place to just listen to wholesome, encouraging, joyful, and worship music would be so refreshing. I think this is such a great idea and I would definitely pay for a subscription to get this.
