The Marriott and Mormonism

The Marriott and Mormonism

The Marriot Hotel chain has been very successful in the past half century in the US. When most Americans hear the word Marriott, whether you have been a customer or not, you are likely to think “decent quality hotel.” This company has worked vigorously to establish its name and its association with quality.

What many people do not know about The Marriott is its connection to not only Christianity but Mormonism as well. Founder of The Marriott, John Willard Marriott, was a devout Mormon who held leadership positions within the Mormon church at the same time he was building his hotel empire. Because of this, a customer is likely to get a Book of Mormon along with the Bible on their nightstand.

Although Mr. Marriott died in 1985, his legacy of religion continues in this successful hotel chain. The hotel has even come out and said recently that they would not be offering paid-per-view pornography within their facilities, showing a continued commitment to traditional conservative beliefs.

  1. My family stays at Marriotts whenever we travel and this reigns true at every one I have been in, there indeed is a Bible and a Book of Mormon in every room. It is really awesome to see. It is little things like having a Bible in the room that can have an impact for Christ. I also do appreciate that Marriott has maintained their beliefs throughout the decades. Although they are not upfront about them, it is still good to know that they have these beliefs and do something about them. Whether that is the way they serve or the Bible in their rooms.
