The History of Tegu

The History of Tegu

Tegu is a magnetic wooden block that has been around for centuries. However, it took until the 20th century for it to become the brand that is known today. Chris Haughey, in the early 200s imagined a toy that would combine the traditional wooden block with modern design and innovation (as inspired by his trip in Honduras). He partnered with local artisans in Honduras, and he used their hardwoods and eco-friendly practices to create Tegu blocks. Through the magnets, it allowed for endless possibilities during construction. This made the toy versatile and dynamic. There has been major applause for its craftmanship, environmental consciousness, and commitment to social impact. Through the local communities of Honduras, it has created a sustainable toy, livelihoods, and educational opportunities. It shows the impact of “play with purpose”. To this day, Tegu continues to inspire generations of creators creating a lasting impact.

  1. This year I really enjoyed learning more about this company. They really do practice what the preach and try to help all of those around them. They have such a huge impact in the Honduras community and provide a means for both kids and their families to prosper and grow. I think the concentration of the product is such a neat way to go about it. I always loved magnets and building as a kid so I would’ve thought this was the neatest thing!
