HOPE International, founded by Jeff Rutt, provides financial resources and training to help those living in poverty and create economic empowerment. It was founded in 1997 because Jeff Rutt saw a lot of people living in poverty whilst on a trip to Ukraine. He wanted to create an organization that would help individuals in impoverished areas to be able to access financial services and biblical discipleship. HOPE International officially began it’s operations in 1998 by creating a microfinance program in Ukraine. It would provide entrepreneurs small loans and give financial literacy training. They wanted to break the poverty cycle and promote sustainable and lasting development. Because of this approach, HOPE International spread quickly. As time has passed, HOPE International has continued to expand and adapt to the changing needs of the communities it serves. Through microfinance, the organization now includes insurance services, credit, and savings. The hope is to help individuals start and grow small businesses, send children to school, and improve the day to day lives of these individuals. HOPE International has a commitment to holistic transformation, this means that they focus on the economic aspect while also recognizing the spiritual and relational aspects of poverty. They now operate in over 16 countries that include Latin America, Eastern Europe, Asia, and Africa. This business impacts the lives of millions. It’s holistic approach continues to change economic empowerment on a global scale. In the two decades since it’s creation, it shows that compassion, innovation, and faith-driven initiatives can be transformative to communities while creating a more equitable world. In the future, HOPE International hopes to continue to empower the marginalized and bring hope to those who need it.
