The Alliance to End Hunger is a non-profit organization that strives to end hunger not only in just the USA, but also abroad. The company Bread for the World established Alliance to End Hunger as a platform for secular and faith based organizations to intertwine with each other and work together to fight the epidemic of hunger. Eventually, by 2004, the Alliance became its own independent organization instead of being a platform to another company. Although it is its own organization now, it still continues to work with other organizations to fight against hunger throughout the world. Now, the organization is in a collection of 90 other different organizations and members.
The Alliance also works with members of federal agencies such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), World Food Program (WFP), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). Partnering with these agencies helps to ensure that the food that they are sending throughout the world is safe and are nonperishable.
They disperse food throughout many different types of environments, ranging from small towns, to major metropolitan cities and states. Sometimes, the branches of the Alliance is ran by governors, mayors, other political figures, or it can be entirely volunteer driven.
The Alliance also has a branch called the National Alliance Partnership Program which helps bring food to seven developing countries; Ghana, Guatemala, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. They were given a grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development by the U.S. Government’s Feed the Future initiative. With this grant, they are able to send more people and food around the world to the people that need it most. They were also given a $3 million grant originally so that they could expand their work. With 90 members, and support from the government, The Alliance to End Hunger hopes to help feed the world.
