Subtle Christian Companies

Subtle Christian Companies

Brands like Chick-fil-A and Hobby Lobby have alienated some customers as they have stood by their religious views. However, other companies’ religious beliefs are less obvious even though they are right under customer’s noses. These brands hide Bible verses and other religious content in plain sight. One example of a company that does this is In-N-Out Burger.

In-N-Out Burger is an American regional chain of fast food restaurants with locations primarily in the Southwest and the Pacific coast. It was founded in Baldwin Park, California, in 1948 by Harry Snyder and Esther Snyder. In-N-Out Burger offers a simple menu, that offers three meals. The #1 is a Double-Double cheeseburger with fries and a drink. The #2 is Single cheeseburger with fries and a drink. Finally, the #3 is burger with fries and a drink. This simple meal menu and the “secret menu” that has options like Animal Fries, 4×4 burger, and Neapolitan shakes, is all that In-N-Out burger sells. This focus has been the proven success for In-Out Burger for the past 70 years. In addition to this simple menu of some of the greatest fast food burgers you will ever try, In-N-Out burger has marched to the beat of their own drum and have had slow and controlled growth only operating in 5 states currently, which has allowed In-N-Out to maintain tight control over the franchise.

Although In-N-Out Burger has created a very popular fast food franchise, with fast and quality food, In-N-Out has also subtly been spreading the gospel and showing their Christian beliefs. In-N-Out Burger prints Bible verses on all their products: cups, burger wrappers, fry boats, even employee paychecks. They appear in very small print and always in discreet places, but they are there, nonetheless. In-N-Out Burger prides themselves on fast and efficient service and has found a way to be subtly Christian and spread the gospel one burger at a time.

  1. This is such an amazing idea!! What a perfectly unlikely combination of the two best things, cheeseburgers and Jesus! It’s so encouraging to see large companies like this maintaining their core values as a business. But also in this case the business owners are able to continue connecting with the customers, even if their hundreds of miles away through the sharing of the Gospel.

  2. I like that the fast food chain isn’t in a customers face about bible passages but has it hidden somewhere on their cups or wrappers. I personally think that will make people want to look it up because they came across of it and their curiosity is peaked. It is great to see Christian companies unafraid of their Christian roots and sticking to their beliefs. Funny how they also do really well and have great customer turnout….almost like God is working with them. I also think that more and more companies are starting to bring in Christian attributes because that is counter cultural and brings more attention and light to their company and Jesus.
