Since its start, Project Eden has been driven by a passionate community of volunteers. Their volunteer’s dedication to preserving beauty has been the backbone of the project. Their mission focuses on five core principles of creation care. Each one helps to foster a connection with nature and inspire sustainability.
5 Aspects of Sustainable Living
Low-impact Living: Often our society is plagued by waste and environmental degradation. Project Eden champions conscientious, eco-friendly habits that minimize our ecological footprint. Their goal is to embrace sustainable practices in every aspect of life. This includes both household consumption and corporate endeavors.
Biodiversity: Project Eden endeavors to restore balance to fragile ecosystems by promoting biodiversity. Urbanization often causes damage to those ecosystems and Grace hopes to stabilize them. By reintroducing native plants and fostering diverse habitats, they help their ecosystems flourish.
Sustainable Food & Gardening: Because of their priority on sustainable food, they help cultivate an appreciation for the land. Their main asset in this has been their community gardens. They serve as a way to bring the community together and provide food for their neighborhood. Their main goal is to reconnect with God through the earth. Their gardens help them grow their food and also serve as a way to aid and provide.
Caring for Animals: Project Eden believes in treating animals with kindness and care. They work to reduce suffering for both wild and domesticated creatures. Their desire is a respectful relationship between humans and animals.
Clean Energy: Project Eden supports clean energy to combat climate change. By promoting energy efficiency and renewable sources they’re helping build renewable infrastructure. Ultimately their goal is to reduce pollution for a healthier planet and communities.
Project Eden meets monthly where all ages share their ideas or work on projects together. These gatherings, held every second Tuesday, show their dedication to preserving nature.
Grace Church is a fantastic example of a community’s desire to care for God’s creation and serve one another. Their care for the environment inspires others to become stewards of the earth.
It was so fascinating to learn about the environmental project that this church launched! In a world where care for creation has become so polarized, Christians often completely neglect the cultural mandate given to us to keep, care, and tend the earth. In God’s plan to bring forward a New Heavens and a New Earth, we see that the Lord is deeply at work to not only restore His people but also all the creatures and land. I love see how this project initiates five practical ways to partner with God in this work of restoration!
Wow! I love that this Church was able to create a ministry endeavor that cares for the environment. I can’t even begin to imagine the ways this project has most likely impacted the sense of community in the church and I’m sure many other churches could learn from Project Eden for their own benefit to not only strengthen community but also care for the earth God has given us stewardship over!
