It is often said that sports are the “universal language”. No matter the culture or the people group, one thing that we all have in common, are sports. I have had the privilege to experience this first hand through a few different organizations: For the Nations Refugee Outreach, Ambassadors Futbol Program, and even my own soccer team. Each one of these organizations and groups of people have the same desire and calling to help and reach others. They have seen a need and met it in a way that allows individuals to come together and share in a common love. Sports Ministries can bring together a community of people that all have very different lives and experiences and allows them to forget about those differences and share in something they both love to do.

One of the coolest aspects of Sports Ministry is that not only do people get to interact and compete with one another through sports, they also get to hear about and share the Gospel. Sports allows for people to lay a foundation and build a relationship with those in need, and then from that relationship and trust, they can share the good news of the Gospel and show them the love of Christ. Ambassadors Futbol does an amazing job at reaching people who might otherwise not be reached. They have programs in over 20 countries that include children’s soccer camps, adult soccer camps, and prison ministry. They have made and continue to make a huge impact on various communities around the world.

Sports Ministry is such an awesome way for people to come together and build relationships. God has given us a means of communication even when there is a language barrier, and that is through sports. It is really cool and encouraging to see people going out and not only sharing the sports that they love but doing it in a way that brings Christ glory.

  1. Sports really do have an impact on communities. People love watching sports and hearing about athletes and their stories of perseverance. Sports are also a great way to communicate an idea or start a movement. Tim Tebow was criticized for kneeling and praying and then the next people were kneeling for police brutality and that had a shift in the community. Sports are a great way to express Gods love and use the platform to help Gods people and bring people to a relationship with God. I think their needs to be more mainstream athletes who speak out about their faith and use their faith in works with charities in counties and their own community.
