Have you ever considered just how great the redemption of God is?
“Making saints out of sinners was even greater than making something out of nothing. For nothingness put up no resistance to Him, as we did.” – Peter Kreeft
I have been pondering this quote the past couple days; what an incredible reality. We were not simply “nothing” but we were “sinners”. We were enemies. We were children of the devil and living in complete and total rebellion to God. BUT GOD (Eph 2:4) decided that his love for us remained too large, and he chose to redeem us. He did not merely bring us to presence with him, but he redeemed us from the realm of sin and into his presence.
What does this have to do with class? I believe our redemptively minded businesses should have a similar mission at heart.
Let me preface this idea by saying I am not trying to say that we as entrepreneurs are God or the Messiah or perform saving work by any means. However, we ought to play a part in God’s greater plan of redemption of the world.
So what does this practically look like?
I think one thing that many redemptively minded businesses sometimes fail to do is to take people out of darkness and into light. In my opinion, the greatest good a business can do is not merely providing light in a dark world. Rather, a business ought to bring someone from a dark world and into the light. We don’t just have a torch that flickers. We have an all-consuming fire that constantly burns and invites. I think redemptively minded entrepreneurs should be identifying problems that can take people from darkness to life.
I love Chick-Fil-A, but providing chicken sandwiches does not have much redemption in mind. However, an organization like Urban Impact, one that provides education, community, and tools to underprivileged youth in rough communities, is a fantastic redemptively minded business. They are taking many kids out of darkness and into light.
