Samaritan

Samaritan

Samaritan is an online platform that is used to assist the homeless. The strategy of Samaritan is to provide what they call a “social home” for the homeless to give them a community that will support them. They believe that through this social home soon after they will then have the ability to find a physical home. This social home has the ability to support the homeless socially and financially with the goal of providing hope to those who do not have it.

Those who are homeless can become a Samaritan Member where they establish their primary goal that is communicated to that members care provider who then has access to the resources and financial support to assist their Samaritan Member to achieve their goals. As Samaritan Members move towards their goals, they can be rewarded on their journey for achieving other small goals along the way. However, the funds that are given to the Samaritan member are redeemed through their care provider for each financial need. Each member is supported by volunteers that commit to doing acts of service for this member to provide them with a community and give them a social home.

I love this company’s idea, homelessness is so widespread and those who suffer from it are truly in need of hope. Alongside the need to solve homelessness is the question of how do you give to someone who is homeless? Samaritan has provided a solution for how to effectively help someone who is homeless and in need of hope.

  1. I love this whole idea, the way it operates, and the solutions it provides. Tackling the issue of homelessness is a complicated process, but Samaritan seems to approach it in an innovative way. Great to see these kinds of innovative companies working to create solutions.

  2. This is a really interesting business idea. I am fascinated at and wondering how they are able to provide all these resources to the homeless and needy. I have been recently think a lot about the topic of helping the homeless and it is cool to see a company doing their best. I am curious as to how a social home eventually leads to a physical home and how long that takes. This is surely a redemptive business, but I still do not understand how they make their money. I am sure there is a huge opportunity for this business to grow and thrive.

    1. I think that this business is such a great example of redemptive entrepreneurship. I didn’t realize how big homelessness was until reading this and also hearing stories on my ICO trip. I think their approach is good for wanting to help people, but i’m also curious about how they make their money and the process.

  3. I love the idea of them giving a temporary home so that they are able to work towards their own! I think it awesome that they don’t just give a place to live, but rather, make it a stepping stone to get to a more permanent home of their own! This is a great example of using innovation to be redeeming people from being on the streets to getting back on their feet!
