Redemptive Entrepreneurship-Esther Homes

Redemptive Entrepreneurship-Esther Homes

As a great sign of redemptive entrepreneurship, Amber Hornsby and Rachel Hanus have created this organization called Esther Homes.  Their main goal and purpose for creating and furnishing these homes is to give places for pregnant women and women with children who are homeless a place to live.  First off, as a mother or soon to be mother, their lives are becoming quite challenging.  Giving birth and creating a new form of life is what should be their main focus, not wondering where or how they are going to live and survive.

Esther Homes have been in contact with many volunteers and outside organizations in areas of job training, providing food, counseling, education, cooking skills, parenting training, teaching women how to purchase vehicles and even how to afford paying for repairs. Furthermore, Esther Homes has partnered with several key organization and churches including: New Life Family Services, City Hill Church, National Maternity Housing Coalition, Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless, and Minnesota Council of Nonprofits. They have also received “referrals from pregnancy resource centers, evidence-based home visiting programs, school districts and alternative learning programs, programs providing services to youth in the foster system, hospitals, drop-in centers, and faith communities.”

In addition, Esther Homes offers up numerous opportunities for students to become involved in their community and to offer entrepreneurial expertise and ideas. They started this program in 2020 and were hoping to launch a new team of volunteers in quite a few areas including digital marketing and social entrepreneurship. They also need assistance in leading fundraising events for the needy women.

The Esther Homes organization is based the act of redemptive entrepreneurship and is built on a biblical foundation of showing Christ’s love to others. The purpose is to remind them of their worth no matter the circumstances.  In addition, they want to remind these mothers that Christ is the center of all hope and He will meet us where we are in our lives.  He isn’t quick to judge and only wants you to fulfill your own unique purpose in life.  These women are given strong advice and are guided throughout the beginning of their motherhood journey with the help of the community around them. In participating in this type of ministry as an organization, it will give them an opportunity to make a great kingdom impact for the glory of God.

  1. What an amazing organization. How did you hear about this? I loved reading about how Esther Homes is being the hands and feet of Jesus by uniquely fulfilling the Great Commission. This is an area of great need for women in our country and in specific cities, so it is very encouraging to read this and hear about how they are impacting communities and the Kingdom of God. When I hear a lot of pro-choice arguments, I am saddened by the assertion that Christians and organizations are unwilling to help a pregnant mother so her only choice is abortion. Esther Homes provides for those needs in such a tangible and inspiring way for the homeless in our country.
