Redemptive ENTR

Chick-fil-A does a quality job of walking in the world of redemptive entrepreneurship.

While they do not classify themselves as a ‘Christian’ company, they certainly reflect God’s love. Chick-fil-A is known for having great customer service. People actively choose to go there as a consumer because of the quality service that they will get. The company has a theme for employees to go the “second-mile” for consumers. This practice reflects God’s love. In addition, the company offer college scholarships for their employees. This reflects God’s love not just to the outside world, but those in the company who may not even know Christ. These employees know that the company they work for upholds Christian values, and they will now associate that with the fruit it brought in their lives in terms of tuition. In addition to this, the public also knows that this company has Christian values, and so they are likely to connect the dots between the quality care with those values. Chick-fil-A also donates money to several ministries, which means they are using some of their own gain to empower the great commission. This is all significant because it reflects that entrepreneurship, and business in general, can serve to glorify God. God uses all sorts of means to reach the lost, and that does not exclude the private sector. Chick-fil-A is a prime example of how a company can have a redemptive impact within both their own organization and community. Jesus often used marketplace lingo to communicate His parables, because he understood that it was so centerfold in the lives of those hearing Him that they would be able to connect the dots as to what He meant. The same is true today, God uses the modern marketplace as a means to draw people to Him.

  • Wow this blog post was written very well with lots of information and gave me insight to things I didn't know before. I feel at times, its hard to classify Chick Fil A as a Christian company because all you think about is the profit, prices, and the amount of publicity surrounded around them. In my opinion, they should really try to reach out to the community more and try to show that they have more of a religious attitude toward business then just focusing on profits. At Grove City, I've learned a lot, so far, about not only caring about profits but caring about people, profit, and planet. From a consumers standpoint, looking in from the outside, I feel like they are focused more on the profit side and not really caring about anything else. For example, they could reach out to churches who need help with anything and do their part. Even though I may not know the entire story, it just seems like profit is a major focus on their end.

  • I love Chick fil A!! They demonstrate so many redemptive values in their model, even if they aren’t a Christian company. God truly uses them to bless communities, and they aren’t afraid to show that they’re different from the typical fast food company.

  • I think it's so important that a Christian business emphasizes excellence and service far before it mentions that it's Christians. We are called to be above reproach, and too often we allow our desires to get in the way and stumble. In a business, it's even harder because more people actually care.

  • It's interesting to think about how Chick-fil-a approaches their integration of faith and business, because you're right about their choice to not explicitly label themselves as Christian, but everyone knows that they are. This is a good model because it lets the good conduct and excellence of product and service shine through as the primary witnesses to Jesus. I would like to embody this in my own work and take this approach with my workforce team if I am ever in leadership. Thanks for sharing!
