Redeemed

This organization is extremely interesting. They are based in Houston, Texas, and they work with adult domestic sex trafficking survivors. They work to bring restoration to through restoration services, holistic healing programs, and support from the community. They do this by providing a place for women to heal and the program is uniquely tailored to each woman. They also specifically provide trauma-informed care for the women in the program.

This organization recognizes that women have their identities stripped from them when they experience sexual exploitation, and they work really hard help women understand their true identity, rather than being defined by their experiences. They also provide artistic therapy to help women regain a sense of creativity.

This organization is very interesting to me because it is redemptively minded, but in a weird way. Clearly, they value redeeming the lives of women who have been through horrible situations; however, this is not necessarily Christ centered organization, so how much redemption can they really offer? This was the question that I asked myself as I explored their website, looking for any hint of Christian practice. I was again confronted by this thought when they referenced helping women find their true identity because our true identities are found in Christ. Eventually, as I was looking through their “Program” page, it had listed that participants could choose to engage in secular or Christ-centered curriculum as part of the program along with a variety of other programs. I also found that they are partnered with a church in their community, so I would consider this organization to be “half-redemptive”, and I would love to see it grow into more of a Christ based organization.

Overall, I love how this organization is targeting one of the biggest problems in the world right now and approaching healing in a different way. Not only are they focused on helping these survivors regain their lives, but they also make it a priority to help them enjoy life again. And, the most amazing part is that the organization is privately funded, so there is no cost to the participants.
