My Home Church and It’s Cultural Impact

Whichever way you may take this, the way that churches are run can greatly impact how a visitor/member views God and Christianity. On one hand, if a church is run extraordinarily well, it will cultivate a space where people are more comfortable accepting the Gospel and living for Christ. On the other hand, if a church is run poorly, it can drive people away from Christ. This is not how it should be, but it is the sad reality. It makes sense that people would focus on churches/church leaders and their actions for true information about God. However, in our fallen world, churches and church leaders often fall short and can even represent or idolize things that do not point to God Himself. Similarly, people may even idolize the church rather than the Creator. It is imperative that churches are run well and put the emphasis on God, not the church. One church that I think does a very good job at this is my home church.

The main pastor at my church is a down to earth, humble man. He runs the ministry well and teaches about a wide and interesting variety of passages from the Bible. He always glorifies God and always relates his messages to real life. This makes the lessons easy to follow and interesting. Another awesome thing my pastor does is give a brief summary of the Gospel at the end of every sermon and gives a prayer of salvation for those who want to accept Jesus. Furthermore, my church offers immediate baptisms right after every service. No appointment or arrangements necessary. These things are all wonderful, but the single most important thing that my pastor preaches is that no matter what, no one is too far gone to be saved by God.

The culture in my area has been greatly effected by the church. When it was started around 2000, it only had a few members. Now, it has 2 campuses and thousands of members. It is often where people who don’t usually go to church choose to go for Christmas or Easter. It plans summer camps, winter retreats, counseling, small groups, and workshops. On top of that, it is very involved in the community, even hosting a huge trunk-or-treat every year. Though it is a large church, it all points directly to God, as every church should.
