Mary Kay: Healing Inner Beauty

The mission of Mary Kay is stated explicitly: “to enrich the lives of women and their families around the world.” My mom used to be a consultant for this company for several years and I just found out recently that it is a Christian business. The founder, Mary Kay Ash, set out with a goal to empower women and create products designed by women. At the time, cosmetics were created by men for women and Mary Kay sought to change that. Within her business she lived with integrity repeating, “Never, absolutely never, compromise your principles.” Outside of the business she continued to encourage women to find the beauty that God designed them with.

This company is committed to Pink Doing Green and Pink Changing Lives. The products seek to not only serve the environment well but to also speak out against domestic violence in the home. Millions of dollars are donated annually “supporting cancer research, protecting survivors from domestic abuse, beautifying our communities, empowering women and girls, as well as other social impact programs.” Mary Kay is clearly redemptive in its mission and practice by serving women and their families.

There are five pillars this company stands on: business excellence, product stewardship, responsible manufacturing, women’s empowerment, and social impact. On their website, www.marykay.com, all of this is clearly organized and displayed. The product promise is that all Mary Kay products are safe to use, naming each customer as their number one priority. Blog posts are up to date on the website showing the impact Mary Kay is having locally and around the world.

Who would have thought that a make-up company would be full of so much influence? Mary Kay sought to use something she loved to impact those around her she cared about. Her perspective of loving people well came from a desire to not only enhance the physical characteristics of women, but to bring healing to the inner heart as well.
