Mario Lemieux- Entrepreneur

One great example of an entrepreneur that I think of in my mind is the GOAT himself, Mario Lemieux. When Mario was growing up his parent turned their living room into an ice rink when he was only two years old. From the start he was born to be a hockey player and he grew up with that goal in mind. Mario never lost sight of his vision and continued to work hard for his goal every day.

Throughout high school, the NHL heard of him, and it was said that he was going to be a French Wayne Gretsky. All of Mario’s statistics proved this to be true. During this time the Pittsburgh Penguins were a dying hockey team and were almost about to go under. When the Pittsburgh Penguins had their first draft choice in 1984, they went with Mario. When Mario came to the states he came in with a fire and drive to play the game he loved and for a new place that he could call home.

The start to Mario’s career proved that he was nothing short of a prodigy. The first play that he got in he scored in three seconds. As Mario settled into his career, he was hands down the best player in the league. His combination of speed and strength was unstoppable. Sadly, he had to end his career short due to an irregular heartbeat. He thought that it was time to hang up the gloves, when he came back three years later to continue. After a short while he had to retire again due to some more health complications, but he was able to leave the game in peace after winning

Mario Lemieux saved hockey for Pittsburgh and is the reason why the team is here and better than ever. In my mind, Mario Lemieux is one of the greatest examples of an entrepreneur that uses his drive and passion to make a change to something for the better.
