Kaleo Labs

The Greek word kaleo can be translated into english to mean “to call or invite”. In 2022, the Kaleo organization was founded by Kevin McKay, Peter Roebbelen, and Christina Ng. The mission in mind for this company was to provide a source of expertise and capital for entrepreneurs who are creating a redemptive company but are stuck when it comes to moving forward. Kaleo works with other redemptively-minded organizations to form a community and teach newer startups how to best create impact and human flourishing on the groups they are trying to reach. They have worked with both for-profit and non-profit organizations and have even partnered with churches to help advance their goal of helping companies advance theirs. In Kaleo’s eyes, the best way to advance God’s kingdom and create flourishing is to strengthen others and help them work to the best of their ability. Every year, they release an impact report, highlighting some of the redemptive companies that they have consulted and partnered with to advance their mission. Another big part of this organization is that they host conferences, or labs as they call them, for redemptive and social entrepreneurs to come and meet other entrepreneurs, hone their specific mission, or realize flaws in their business models. For many entrepreneurs, the hardest part of creating a redemptive company is getting it started, and Kaleo is able to serve as a mentor to help them not only receive initial funding, but to help them amplify and understand how to best advance with their company. By helping other redemptive enterprises, Kaleo could itself be considered a social enterprise because they are advancing the mission of God and helping others create an impact of human flourishing. For these reasons, this is an example of a company that took an unconventional, but effective, approach to working for the goals of a redemptively minded company.
