Joy Comes is a missions organization with which I have had the privilege of going to Honduras. They are funded entirely by donations. On my first trip to Honduras, we spent the whole time in an orphanage. It was near Christmas time, so we brought the kids Christmas presents. Joy Comes set up a sponsor for each of the kids in the orphanage. As a team member, it was my job to find sponsors for a few of the kids. We wanted them to experience Christmas like American children do. The sponsors bought the kids quality gifts like an American child would receive instead of cheap gifts like most organizations. The week was spent with the kids in the orphanage and playing games with them. The main goal of that trip was to let the kids know that they were loved and valued.
We brought medical supplies, food, and other necessities to remote villages on my second trip. One of our Honduran team members was a nurse, and she met with people from one of the villages and gave prescriptions. Then, we make up packages of the medicines she prescribed. We set up at a pastor’s house in the village for both of the villages we went to. It was incredible to see how many people came when they heard that we were giving out food, supplies, and other necessities.
Joy Comes the main goal is to bring hope and joy to those in darkness. Sometimes the easiest and best way to care for someone at the moment is to bring joy. On our medical brigade, we didn’t just give out medicine but also gave the kids tattoos and participated in foot races. Joy doesn’t always do missions in a generic way or the way you’d expect. They are innovative and creative in showing love and bringing joy to people.
