Interstate Batteries

For this blog I wanted to have a look into a company that has woven Christian values into their business model. Interstate Batteries, founded in 1952 by John Searcy, integrates Christianity into its business model. They are, known for their automotive batteries, and have woven Christian values into their corporate culture, creating a unique workplace environment that emphasizes faith, integrity, and community.

One of the ways Interstate Batteries incorporates Christianity is through its chaplaincy program. This program offers spiritual support to employees, providing services such as prayer and Bible studies. The chaplains help employees navigate personal and professional challenges, fostering a sense of care and community within the workplace. This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to supporting the holistic well-being of its employees, beyond just their professional roles.

Additionally, Interstate Batteries holds optional prayer meetings and Bible studies. These gatherings provide employees with opportunities to connect on a spiritual level, share their faith, and support one another. By offering these activities, the company creates an environment where employees can openly express their beliefs and find encouragement in their faith journey.

The company’s leadership also plays a crucial role in maintaining its Christian ethos. Norm Miller, the chairman of Interstate Batteries, is vocal about his faith and how it influences his leadership style. He emphasizes the importance of integrity, honesty, and treating others with respect—values that are deeply rooted in Christian teachings. This approach not only guides the company’s business practices but also sets a positive example for employees, culture from the top down.

Interstate Batteries’ commitment to integrating Christianity into its business model extends to its community involvement. The company supports various charitable organizations and initiatives that align with its values, demonstrating its dedication to making a positive impact beyond the corporate sphere.

I really like that they are focused on making an “Inner-Culture” that will inevitably make ripples throughout all that they are doing. And again, the top-down leadership culture, setting an example and making sure that the company’s values are being spearheaded by the leadership of the company.
