Hobby Lobby- Kingdom Impact

One business that is striving to further the Kingdom of God is Hobby Lobby. Very outspoken on his family’s faith, Hobby Lobby CEO David Green makes it a priority to give his employees and customers the best experience in all aspects. One major way that Hobby Lobby’s management is outspoken about its Christian beliefs is the nationwide closing of all stores on Sundays. This gives time “allowing associates time for family and for worship.” (newsroom.hobbylobby.com).

Another way that Hobby Lobby’s management factors in their faith is in their mission statement stated below on their main website hobbylobby.com.

“We Are Committed To

  • Honoring the Lord in all we do by operating the company in a manner consistent with Biblical principles.
  • Offering our customers exceptional selection and value.
  • Serving our employees and their families by establishing a work environment and company policies that build character, strengthen individuals, and nurture families.
  • Providing a return on the family’s investment, sharing the Lord’s blessings with our employees, and investing in our community.”

Hobby Lobby is a great example of what it looks like for a massive chain-store putting its values before anything. The Christian principles that Hobby Lobby follows are very evident throughout their stores, including employee interactions and even the music being played in the store. Overall, Hobby Lobby and it’s leaders are able to run an extremely successful hobby store while still making sure that the Kingdom of God comes first.

  • I had no idea Hobby Lobby's CEO was religious. This is so fun to read about! I love how he is spreading the word of God through his business, that is something my family and I strive to do for our business as well.

  • Love to hear about companies like this who value the importance of remaining consistent with their mission and refraining from drifting from that mission.

Service is everywhere in industries like this, however, where that passion to serve comes from is different depending on what the company is. Hobby Lobby has created a culture that people seemingly want to be a part of and invest in and that is something of high value. Thanks for sharing this Reed!

  • I didn't know Hobby Lobby was a Christian company until this year and I specifically love their commitment statement. The way they said that they want to "share the Lord's blessings" with their employees is incredible and shows that their priorities are truly in the right place. If every business tried to operate under those same standards I can't imagine how much better working conditions would be for employees and how much more positive interaction with customers would be.
