Hobby Lobby is one company that has a kingdom impact. On the hobby lobby website, one of their mission statements is that they are committed to, “Honoring the Lord in all we do by operating the company in a manner consistent with Biblical principles.” The last mission statement is “Proving a return on the family’s investment, sharing the Lord’s blessings with our employees, and investing in our community.” With these core values, they have a significant Kingdom impact. The company gives a 10% discount to any church or national charitable organization on all purchases. Also, they support several charities that reflect the company’s beliefs. Of these charities, there is: Every Home for Christ, Museum of the Bible, Every Tribe Every Nation, and more. Being able to support these charities that spread God’s word is a redemptive way of doing business. When Obamacare came out, David Green, CEO, refused to comply. Federal mandate wanted his company to help pay for drugs that are used for abortion. Although, the company did voluntarily pay for 16 additional contraceptives. Mr. Green believes that his company should end each year debt free because taking on debt is dishonoring to God. Taking debt is like saying that God isn’t working fast enough so you take on debt to grow your business faster. Learning of Hobby Lobby’s ministry work, I now have a different view on the company and will think of them before other companies for home goods.
