Last week I was offered an amazing opportunity to work at Seneca Hills Bible Camp as a camp counselor. I worked as a counselor at a camp in North East, Maryland this past summer and absolutely fell in love with the job, so I knew I wanted to do it again. I had attended SHBC when I was a kid and knowing that I will now be working there is one of the coolest feelings ever. This camp works so hard to promote strong, healthy mentoring relationships that encourage campers to pursue Christ in a deeper way.
Seneca Hills is one of the biggest reasons why I am a Christian Ministries major and why I have a personal relationship with Jesus. This camp taught me how to grow in Him, while also having fun along the way. It taught me that you don’t have to miss out on fun nights as a Christian, but that surrounding yourself with Christian role models who share interests with you is one of the most beneficial things you can do. It is so easy to feel alone in this world when we are surrounded by wordly things, and having a community in faith is not only a good idea, but a command. The Bible has so many verses that emphasize the importance of having good company.
Seneca Hills gives youths the opportunity to cultivate healthy relationships with their peers while also being spiritually mentored by older staff that truly care about them. These relationships are lifelong and irreplaceable. It is so cool to see how much I was impacted by the counselors I had and I can only hope that I leave half as much of an impact on the campers I will have.
Being able to show children that they can have wholesome fun is a huge task to try and take on, but Seneca Hills does a great job at it. In a controlled environment that strives to show God’s love in tangible ways, it is highly effective and enjoyable. The speakers they bring to chapels are so invested in the kids and teach not only the campers, but the staff great lessons as well. This camp has done so many amazing things for me and so many others, and I am so excited to see how God continues to use it in the time to come.
Hey Janae! I love Seneca Hills Bible Camp. That is super exciting you have an opportunity serve at this camp. While some Christian camps have been struggling recently, it appears that Seneca Hills has done a fantastic job adapting to the changing culture. I hope the camp can continue its mission for many more years!
