God and Money

For this blog post, I am going to comment on a topic that we mentioned in class today. We talked about a company called Tegu blocks. This is a high-end toy company that is centered out of Honduras. They found out that there is a high amount of hard woods there where they could take advantage of this. At the same time, they are Christian men who started this. This is a very unique situation where Christian men are creating a for-profit company in a third-world country. They saw this as an opportunity to do good for the country and use their money for the kingdom. I read a great book called God and Money that two Harvard graduates wrote. This entire book talks against the stereotype that if Christians have money it is a sin. The Bible talks about the love of money being the root of all evil. Meaning that if we pursue money as our end all be all, that is where our problem lies. Money cannot be our God. Money cannot be our Idol. This book talks about having a standard of living. And when we are blessed and have a great standard of a living to not stop gaining money. That every dollar we earn after that we can put directly to growing Gods kingdom. This was such a great way to think about it. When we are blessed with financial success, we can use that to grow Gods kingdom. This is something that is a serious issue in todays world. People who have lots of money use it to try and find fulfillment. They seek fulfillment in material things. This book helped change my perspective to using this blessing as a way to give to those who are lacking.  And Bless them with things that they do not have.

I appreciate your perspective on this! Your reflection on how money is not inherently bad, but rather how we use it can be. I think it is a very important reminder in today’s world. I would love to see what would happen if more businesses adopted this mindset!

I like how you tied in what we learned in class to something you read elsewhere. Nice post!
