Endless Concept

The concept stage is an important part of building a redemptive business, but we often find ourselves trapped here. This is where most ideas go to die, but we try so desperately for them to live. We mull over ideas for months or years, building upon our ideas while never breathing life into them.

We have forgotten that ideas are only half the story. No grand epic was ever written about Odysseus sitting and contemplating his voyage. The Bible doesn’t tell us to think about giving a man a coat if we have two, but to actually give it! So why is it so hard for us simply to go forth and do?

If you are afraid of the risk, that whatever could go wrong will go wrong, remember that failure is in the heart. If we try our best and fail, even if we go into debt or go bankrupt, we can still find a way forward. If we let failure drag us down, it will keep us down forever.

If you are afraid you can’t do it, remember that many people before you thought the same thing. God never gives us a task we can’t overcome. Only our own minds and the lies of the devil make us think so.

If you are afraid of what others think, remember that Jesus’ own brother did not believe him until later in his life. This did not stop Jesus from fulfilling his duty on earth. How much less our duty, and how much less the scorn!

In conclusion, if we are afraid to develop an idea past the concept stage, we must remember there is no greater enemy in our efforts than our own mind. So pick on idea, and no matter how bad it gets stick with that idea to its conclusion. You may find it did not work out, or that it was a grand success. Great, now start a new project. Don’t waver left or right, thinking about what could be. Set your eyes on what you will do and you will go far.

I agree with emphasizing the importance of moving beyond the concept stage in building a redemptive business. Many ideas die in contemplation because people fear risk and failure. Encouragement through God is definitely needed. Good post.
