Digital Ministry | Who’s Doing It?

Digital Ministry | Who’s Doing It?

Hello hello! Happy Monday, y’all.

Ok so after last week’s crash course in digital ministry and what it’s all about, today I’m going to talk about some people who are doing it super well. Always good to have people to look up to, right?

  1. Sarah Cunningham: I was very intrigued as I started to read about Sarah. Her platform, if you will, focuses on community. What community means and how we have lost the community that God intended for us as believers to enjoy and grown within. Sarah has interviewed hundreds a people throughout her ministry and writes from within her experience and the experience of others. This seems like something that is especially important and poignant for us as young people and I can personally say that I have felt this lack of community and missed having others in close connection with myself. Look out for Sarah and her work on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook!
  2. Jana Riess: Jana and her work is focused specifically on religion in America, especially as it relates to ethics in today’s religious landscape. This topic seems to be especially important to us as GCC students and I am interested in seeing more about what Jana is written and spoken. With the blast of media and digital influence from all sides these days, I know I have felt very morally and ethically challenged at times. I look forward to learning more about Jana in the future.
  3. Mary Hess: Mary Hess is another leader or export in Digital Ministry. One of Mary’s specialties is how we can use digital storytelling in our digital age to spread the gospel and for faith formation. As we all know simply from social media, storytelling is huge today. In order to engage with people our age, we have to share our faith in a way that is engaging to them, ie via storytelling! Mary is a great source for Christian education and leadership tips.
  4. Jackie Hill Perry: Before coming to Christ at age 19, Jackie was a drug user and identified as a lesbian. Today, she has grown and matured in her faith and uses her story as an outlet for ministry to others. I found Jackie’s website to be particularly appealing to be as a student in terms of aesthetics and visuals. I found myself drawn into her story and wanting to learn more. Obviously, her outlet for ministry and audience involvement is working! By far, her story is the most unique and awe inspiring of the people on this list so I encourage you to check out her website and find out more Facebook, Twitter, Insta, etc.

I hope that this most was inspiring and informational to read! I found myself intrigued as I was reading about these influencers and their different perspectives on what they specifically minister about and how they do that. Anyways, this post is getting pretty long so I will sign off. Until next time!

  1. I really like the way you highlighted a few different peoples’ ministries in particular. I have heard of Jackie Hill Perry and really respect her vulnerability with other people. This blog is simple, yet interesting.

  2. These are great examples! I particularly love the idea of the Jackie Hill Perry one–what a helpful perspective she brings. Reminds my of Rosaria Butterfield–have you heard of her? She is not involved with digital media, but she is an academic writer (I think she was a professor) who was previously a lesbian and came to Christ. She’s written a couple of books about it. I think using the stories of unbelievers who came to Christ is such a powerful way to reach out to non-Christians.
