One entrepreneurial venture that I personally enjoy, is the story of Dave Ramsey. Today, people know him as a millionaire who is famous for his trusted sourcing of financial advice. But he was not always this successful.
At age 26, Dave Ramsey was bringing home a quarter of a million dollars a year and had a $4 million real estate portfolio. Two years later he lost everything. He ended up having to file for bankruptcy. After learning how quickly he can lose everything, Ramsey knew he couldn’t live like this. He needed a plan to keep his finances in line and when nothing could help him, he decided to do it himself. Ramsey was entrepreneurial in the way he brought himself up out of the depths of debt and is now a wealthy and famous personal finance guru and author. He is living proof that anyone can turn a bad situation around.
But one thing Ramsey recognizes is that he never would have been able to save his life, without God’s help. His fall from being wealthy to bankruptcy is what led him to Christ. He started reading the Bible and came to learn that God had a lot to say about money. Even though that was one of the hardest times in Ramsey’s life, without that learning experience maybe he never would have known Christ. This is what makes Ramsey so unique, is that he employes Christian values to help convey his message of financial caution and saving.
When I was younger, my dad really enjoyed listening to Dave Ramsey. Eventually I took the teenage version of Ramsey’s personal financial plan to help me learn the basics of money and financing. I think it is really influential how Ramsey incorporates what the Bible says about money into his planning and services to others. He is one great example of redemptiveness in entrepreneurship and is planting seeds all the time!
