Artificial Intelligence may be controversial among Christian circles, but this doesn’t change the reality that AI has become a prominent way to receive information and will only continue to grow. Many companies have released statements that ensure that their Artificial Intelligence programs are accountable for following the AI Bill of Rights.

The 5 principles of the AI Bill of Rights (according to builtin.com) are as follows:

• Provide Safe and Effective Systems
• Avoid Algorithmic Discrimination
• Provide Data Privacy
• Provide Notice and Explanations
• Provide Human Alternatives, Consideration and Fallback

With that being said there is a unique opportunity for redemption to occur in this field of study. As part of this endeavor, a company called Data Annotation ensures that the Artificial Intelligence systems are efficiently and provide safe information for its users. For example: If someone intends to harm themselves or others AI must ‘Provide a Human Alternative’ (i.e. providing the Suicide prevention hotline) or provide a ‘consideration’ for the user as an alternative (i.e. telling them this is not a good idea.) People who work for Data Annotation participate in training the AI chatbots for this task, as well as efficiency in responses.

I have had the privilege of working for this Data Annotation which aims to secure this new Artificial Intelligence by promoting ethical practices and monitoring basic human tendencies to enhance and protect its responses to its users. Not all Christians need to be involved in aiding in this process, however, being aware of its relevance to the world and the redemptive opportunity can be beneficial to entering the conversation on Artificial Intelligence and its benefits.
