While Cru (formerly known as Campus Crusade for Christ) has been around as a ministry since the 1950’s, great work has been done in reaching thousands upon thousands of college students worldwide with the truth of the Gospel. Although I have never been part of Cru myself, I have several friends from back home who were connected with Cru in some capacity, either with parents working for Cru or getting involved through Cru at their college campuses. In addition, through my good friend Andrew who now works for Cru full-time, I have been able to see how my small donations each month along with those of many others are being used in amazing ways for kingdom purposes.

As a non-profit, Cru is truly unique in the way they go about doing ministry. While each full-time staff member has to raise their own support, it forces those who work for Cru to be fully committed to raising the money they need for ministry while also partnering with other Christians to support them. In addition, Cru campus staff devote countless time to not only hosting weekly meetings, but individually discipling 10-12 students who they challenge to in turn disciple 10-12 more students. Through seeing Andrew’s newsletters, it is clear that this is something that is expected of Cru staff as their ministry is very discipleship-oriented.

While Cru is focused on discipleship of young Christians on college campuses, they also do lots of work with evangelism. Though a lot of their evangelism is centered around various college campuses across the country, Cru also provides opportunities for their staff as well as college students involved in ministry to go on mission trips. On these missions trips, Cru staff members and students are given the opportunity to share the Gospel with dozens of people they come into contact with and many lives are changed through it. Though there are lots of Christian non-profits that do missions work, Cru is truly unique in how they specifically disciple college students to then in turn go forth and make disciples.
