Cornerstone Television Network

Cornerstone Television Network is a Christian media ministry that is right in our backyard, based in the suburbs of Pittsburgh. The network began over 40 years ago and was founded through the redemptive minds of Norma Bixler and her husband, Russ. Through God’s call to Norma in 1979 and the many hurdles they faced, remained the reminder of Isaiah 49:22 to the Bixler’s, in which God says, “Behold, I will lift up My hand to the nations, and raise My Signal to the peoples” (ESV). Since then, Cornerstone Network has grown to 11 original programs and the airing of many impactful programs that air nationally. Beyond their television network, Cornerstone has a 24-hour prayer line and an outreach called Cornerstone Cares, that meets the needs of people locally, nationally, and internationally.

Included with Cornerstone’s beliefs are their ministry distinctives, which for media, says, “We are a television network and as such we will strive to have quality Christian programming throughout our entire broadcast schedule. We also produce our own original programs that are innovative and Christ-centered. In all we do, we will seek to provide entertaining programs that evangelize and edify.” Cornerstone’s media “mission statement” fits very well with the topic of the class, in that Cornerstone’s mission is to produce Christ-centered and innovative programs.

I am aware of Cornerstone Network because I live in western Pennsylvania, and Cornerstone Network is one of the channels on my TV at home. I don’t watch the network too often, but one of Cornerstone’s original programs, called Hard Questions, is a show that I think is relevant to the topic of the class and relevant to how Christianity impacts our modern society. The show, Hard Questions, includes a panel of local pastors that each have backgrounds and pastoral experience in their varied denominations, but the focus of the show is to answer your questions, with a biblically based answer. With the concept of this show, a lot of the questions surprisingly relate to what I have thought about at some point. Some questions really are difficult and “hard” to breakdown, however, the show does a good job of giving truthful Bible answers that help clear the uncertainty that comes with being a believer in today’s age.

*In reading Cornerstone’s beliefs, what is titled “The Essentials” does a good job of keeping the facts to the Bible and the gospel. Also, their beliefs page does a good job of explaining what faith in Christ is and why one places their faith in Christ. With that, I simply encourage you to check it out for yourself.*
