Cookies and Christ

Cookies and Christ

A church is not merely a building with a steeple, it is gathering of people there to worship God. Families come to sing songs of praise and to receive the word of God. With families also comes the children and their numerous activities, like Girl Scouts, and with Girl Scouts come cookies. Girl Scouts are not bad, they do a lot of good to help the community like helping at a food pantry, but they, it could be argued, take advantage of the people at the church. If a Girl Scouts member goes to church and gets twenty orders for cookies, they are using the numerous people at the church for their advantage and not for the glory of God. Taking advantage of numbers to gain a prophet, is what the vendors did at the temple when Jesus flipped tables in Matthew 12. When a business and a church work together, the business should not be looking to increase revenue because of the number of people in a church.

  1. Wow, your last sentence really made your whole post come together. That is a powerful line. You are absolutely correct too, businesses sometimes take advantages of churches and forget the meaning of what church is actually about. Businesses working with a church should be believers and using their company to help further the church, not the other way around. Great point!
