Commonplace Coffee – Coffee and Community

Commonplace Coffee – Coffee and Community

Commonplace Coffee is a local coffee company that was founded by TJ Fairchild and his wife Julie. Their mini coffee empire, which was founded 20 years ago, in 2003, in Indiana, PA has expanded to 7 other locations where you can get a cup of coffee and experience the Commonplace community. Beyond their many locations in Pittsburgh and Indiana, PA, is the heart of TJ and Julie to serve people and build community through their love of coffee.

From the opening date to now, TJ and Julie continue to build their coffee business on the values of community, hospitality, belonging, and sustainability. Commonplace exists to foster and build community through coffee with Craft and Care. Even with multiple locations, TJ and Julie look to meet people where they are, and build relationships. Commonplace seeks to support, mentor, and educate their wholesale clients in achieving their coffee-related goals. Additionally, Commonplace seeks to create an organization that can support staff through benefits, compensation, professional development, and personal growth, such that staff can sustain a career in specialty coffee.

TJ, Julie, and their 3 boys, are a family friend. In knowing their faith in Christ, they certainly have been serving God’s kingdom well for the last 20 years and will continue to do so. The Fairchild’s have a love for Christ, and through their love of Christ, they love to serve all people and build community, both relationally and through their business. In his experience of entrepreneurship and building community, TJ has helped friends in their growth in the coffee business as well, including Urban Trail Coffee which has one of its locations right here at GCC inside of Buhl Library!
